Entry deadline: 31 July. Enter using the online form
To unlock innovative ideas in the materials, components and processes used during the construction and maintenance of UK highways projects.
The hub is sponsored by the MPA (Mineral Products Association)
The Mineral Products Association is collaborating with Highways UK on the Materials Innovation Hub (MIH), which will form a major new component to Highways UK 2018.
The MIH will be a showcase for innovations in the materials, components and processes used during the construction and maintenance of highways projects. Like the IIH, the MIH is competition based, with the short-listed entries invited to present at Highways UK in front of a panel of judges using a "dragon's den" style format.
Our ambition is the MIH will become a major focal point and meeting place for suppliers, contractors, specifiers and clients involved in pavement materials aspects of highways across the national, regional and local roads networks.
We are looking for entries that showcase materials, components and processes used during the construction and maintenance of highways projects in the following areas:
(A) Efficiency of pavement materials
ie innovations in materials and their use in pavement engineering, from the surface course down to subgrade level
ie road user safety, road worker safety
(C) Infrastructure and structures around the pavement
ie structures, embankments, cuttings, drainage, restraint systems etc
(D) On the pavement
ie white lines, road studs, road markings etc
(E) Future Highways
Entries for categories A-D will be judged against the following criteria:
Essential - meets a clearly identified current or near-future need
Innovative - novel and innovative offering a new approach that delivers demonstrable benefits
Sustainable - meets environmental, economic and social needs
Solutions - outcomes that offer pragmatic and achievable solutions to real-world highways client challenges
